County Records Highest Visitor Spending Growth Rate in Kerr-Tar Region

Louisburg, N.C. – Visitors to Franklin County spent a record $44.1 million in 2025, representing a 4.9% increase over the previous year, according to the latest Economic Impact of Travel on North Carolina Counties study commissioned by Visit North Carolina and prepared by Tourism Economics.

Franklin County's 4.9% visitor spending growth rate surpassed the 2025 growth rates of several of North Carolina's larger visitor destinations, including Mecklenburg County (Charlotte) at 1.5%, Wake County (Raleigh) at 2.4%, and Guilford County (Greensboro) at 2.9%.

While counties with larger populations naturally generate higher overall visitor spending, Franklin County's 4.9% visitor spending growth rate was the highest among the five Kerr-Tar counties and exceeded North Carolina's statewide growth rate of 1.3%. Since 2022, visitor spending in Franklin County has increased nearly 16%, reflecting continued momentum in the county's visitor economy.

“These results reflect the momentum we're building in Franklin County and the opportunities ahead,” said Angela P. Allen, TMP, Existing Industry & Tourism Development Manager for Franklin County. “Our focus is on giving visitors more reasons to explore Franklin County, stay longer and spend locally — creating greater economic impact for our communities.”

Visitor spending supports businesses across Franklin County, including restaurants, retail shops, lodging, farms, wineries, recreation providers, attractions, and community events. These visitor dollars help strengthen local businesses, support jobs, and contribute to the County's overall economy. The reported visitor spending reflects estimated expenditures by travelers throughout the County and is not revenue received directly by county government.

The Franklin County Tourism Development Authority (TDA) plays a key role in strengthening the County's visitor economy. Franklin County collects a room occupancy tax from eligible overnight lodging, with net proceeds provided to the TDA for tourism purposes. Under state law, at least two-thirds of those funds must be used to promote travel and tourism, including efforts such as marketing, research, and destination branding, while up to one-third may be used for tourism-related expenditures.

Working with Franklin County Economic Development, the TDA is currently investing in the development of a countywide destination brand and tourism strategy that will support partnerships, marketing initiatives, local businesses, attractions, and events that encourage visitors to discover more of Franklin County.
