Cape Cod Master Gardeners Bring Autumn Joy Symposium to Harwich Oct. 3

September 4, 2026 (Barnstable, MA) –Fall doesn’t mean the end of gardening on Cape Cod. It can be one of the best times to rethink what you’re growing, make changes to your yard, and plan for the seasons ahead.
The Master Gardener Association of Cape Cod will host its Autumn Joy 2026 Symposium on Saturday, October 3, at the 204 Cultural Arts Municipal Building in Harwich.
This year’s keynote speaker, Duncan Himmelman, PhD, will present “Great Native Plants for an Autumn Garden.” Himmelman will share native perennials, trees, and shrubs that can add fall color while providing late-season food for native bees, butterflies, and other insects before winter.
Participants will also choose two breakout sessions:
- Ground Covers as Lawn Alternatives — Carolyn Brzezinski, Master Gardener
- Contain Yourself: Potted Plants for the Home and Patio Garden — Escher Cattle, Cape Cod Cooperative Extension Entomologist and Educator
- Growing Figs on Cape Cod — Rich Trimble, Master Gardener
- Growing Mushrooms — Chase Freeman, Cape Cod Mushroom Co.
The event will also include door prizes from local merchants. Participants may bring one cup of dry soil for pH testing and can learn more about Pollinator Pathway Cape Cod.
Registration is $30 per person and includes coffee and light refreshments. Online registration is open through September 25 or until the event sells out. Mail-in registration must be received by September 23.
